Default Vic-Maui at the Van Isle 360

Vic-Maui at the 2015 Van Isle 360

Vic-Maui boats, past and future, were active participants at the 2015 Van Isle 360 race, which ran in 9 stages starting June 6 and finishing June 20. The record fleet of over 50 boats and some 485 sailors enjoyed truly epic sailing conditions, beating, reaching and running in great pressure.

Participating Vic-Maui boats included Alegria X, Anduril, Bravo Zulu, Double Take, Family Affair, First Sight, JAM, Kinetic, Night Runner, Terremoto, Time Bandit and Zulu. Anduril took first in Division A, Terremoto took first in Division 1, Zulu took first in Division 2, Alegria X took second in Division 3, and Double Take took third in the Division IRC. Future Vic-Maui teams swept the podium in Division B.

Default Vic-Maui at Swiftsure

Vic-Maui at Swiftsure

The Vic-Maui information session at Swiftsure was very well attended. Royal Vancouver Yacht Club's Vic-Maui Event Chair David Sutcliffe delivered the presentation and took questions from interested sailors. A big "thank you" is owed to Swiftsure for their support.

Swiftsure's 2015 fleet of about 200 boats enjoyed fantastic sailing conditions, a "race for the ages", according to the dock talk after the race. Vic-Maui boats Longboard, JAM, Terremoto, Time Bandit, Kinetic, Miles, and Ion all reached the podium in their respective classes. Kraken, Family Affair, Kahuna, String Theory, Atalanta, Bravo Zulu, Darby, Double Take, First Sight, HMCS Oriole, Marda Gras, Night Runner also participated.

Default The 2016 Vic-Maui fleet is off to a strong start!

Vic-Maui, first sailed in 1965, is celebrating its first Half Century. For this significant anniversary, we have opened the entry window much earlier than usual and eleven boats have already entered. The 2016 Vic-Maui fleet is off to a strong start. The latest entrants include:
  • Robbie Robinson's Nordic 46 RS, "Insignia" (Cruising Class), Sloop Tavern YC
  • George Bishop's Express 37, "Expresso" (Racing Class, Fully Crewed), Nanaimo YC
  • Dean Conti's new Jeanneau 509, name TBD (Racing Class, Fully Crewed), Three Tree Point YC
  • Robert Hennessey's Beneteau First 40.7, "Starblazer" (Racing Class, Fully Crewed), West Sound Corinthian YC
There are three American boats among the four latest entries. There are now three Beneteau First 40.7's entered, which should make for some very close and competitive racing among these matched boats. Profiles for each of the entered boats are online at http://www.vicmaui.org/teams.

The early entry deadline is September 15, 2015 and the final entry deadline is February 3, 2016.

Please join the 2016 Vic-Maui fleet for Challenge • Adventure • Teamwork.

Let's get 20 more boats! A few more beneteaus would be nice, bit thin there so far... Nice to see another 9 series Jeanneau jump into this.

Default Vic-Maui early entry fleet, so far ...

Not enough Beneteau's? We need a humour font.

There are eleven boats entered so far, ten in the racing class and one in the cruising class, all listed at http://www.vicmaui.org/teams
  • seven Beneteau's, including three First 40.7's,
  • two Jeanneau's,
  • an Express 37, and
  • a Nordic 46 in the cruising class

There are a variety of additional boats in the 'pipeline' ...

Default Great weather, great sailing continues - 2016 Vic-Maui on the horizon!

Southern Straits, Swiftsure and the VI 360 all delivered great distance racing this year. And we are enjoying great summer weather with wind!

Thinking about more distant horizons ... in this morning’s news, the latest 2016 Vic-Maui confirmed early-entry is a new-to-the-region Reichel/Pugh 55, Crossfire (ex Rima 2). The twelve boats that have filed early entries so far are listed at http://www.vicmaui.org/teams. You can see the initial profile for Crossfire at http://www.vicmaui.org/teams?itemid=101. The owner previously campaigned an Andrews 53, Artemis. Crossfire, a modern high performance design being sailed by an offshore experienced crew, should help set a blistering pace at the fast end of the fleet. We are looking forward to more big, fast boats entering the Half Century edition of Vic-Maui.

Vic-Maui represents the best of our region, our boats, our sailors, and it is our ocean race. We hope to see you join us for the 2016 Vic-Maui.
