Hey everybody! There's still time to get registered for SHAG - the race is THIS SATURDAY, Sept 23rd.

You can register online for just $15 at http://vrcracing.ca/shag/

We've got a good group of boats signed up already, but would love to have more. The weather forecast is calling for sunshine!

Seems a bit early yet, but I've gone ahead and registered.

So who else is coming?

Light easterly wind at the start, so RC set a short course (barge buoy-freighter-finish).

There were hard-to-predict wind holes and shifts on the first beat, and Manana had the privilege of showing us where not to go. As the race progressed the wind picked up a bit, then eased, and then about halfway down the run it suddenly shifted to westerly, so we all raised headsails and doused kites, rounded the freighter and raised spinnakers again for the run to finish.

It ended up being a short race so RC set a second short two-lap race (freighter-pin-freighter-finish). Busy times on board for those of us running sym chutes!

On the first lap of Race 2 most of the fleet missed the memo for the beat and went out into the bay on the flooding tide, letting Krikkit make big gains by holding starboard tack in towards the beach. Second lap saw everyone in coming further towards the beach, then hoisting chutes for a quick run home. I saw 8-11 knots true for a good portion of the day.

Good times!
