After reading about the Northern Century I'm definitely interested in some SH or DH distance races. Could be interesting to do a Friday evening start like the Northern Century. Also having a start somewhere like Dundarave so spectators can watch would be cool.

Starting at Dundarave would be a great way to turn this race into a long painful festival of suffering. A start off Jericho would be much better.

I love the N 100 and its format........and this sounds very similar.......so are we not just watering down the field by offering up two almost identical races? Part of the draw of the N 100 is also racing against different boats, skippers and crews that I don't face back at my home club.....

Now what about teaming up with the AYC guys and doing the race on alternate years, that might work, or not

Still I think there is huge interest in events for short handed sailing......the N 100 and the Vendee Saltspring are great and getting bigger each year while other venues are seeing declining numbers........that said, I have heard that the Vendee Saltspring may not run after next year due to volunteer issues or something to that effect......so maybe there is a void opening up.

Good points.

I'm thinking that a distance race that starts and finishes in Vancouver increases the chances I'll be able to actually do it. I'd love to do the N100 next year, but it's a heck of a delivery for my boat and the date may be too close to my wedding next summer.

Canting,

I am up for this event and have been since you first mentioned it. The only concern I have is this... TCYC has a similar race on the Summer Solstice (its sort of my creation as its my birthday) and we have been developing it on the Solstice for two years.

In the spirit of cooperation and of more DH and SH racing, can you possibly put forward a different date?

Rick

And for god's sake - no wedding talk on this site under any circumstances.

I forgot about that regatta. I remember thinking the TCYC Summer Solstice would be a really fun event. I like the pursuit format.

Sorry Tye, guess I skipped over that part of the forum rules
