Default 2015 VRC Summer Regatta - July 10-12

Hi Sailors,

I just wanted to let you know that for the upcoming July 10-12 Annual VRC Summer Regatta and Lobster Bash…the VRC is partnering with the Georgia Strait Alliance, a registered, non-profit charity in BC, to protect and restore our B.C. coastal water. With the oil spill in English Bay and the chemical fire in the harbor, its more important than ever to bring awareness to the health of our marine environment and make a difference!

First off we encourage you to sign up early and race that weekend! The SIs, NOR and regatta info will be posted shortly….but in the mean time I have some important info…

Fundraising is not necessary to participate in the regatta but THERE WILL BE CASH PRIZES made available for boats who choose fundraise a minimum of $250 for the Georgia Strait Alliance. In order to win the cash prize you must place 1st, 2nd or 3rd in your division and raise $250 for the GSA. Last year together we raised over $15,000 and Ultraman, Windyfeat, Silik etc. all won cash and some boats kept it and some donated it back.

If you would like me to set up a Crew Fundraise Page (like ours ) so that your friends/family/colleagues can donate/sponsor you….please send me a PM or email at Kate@renewalfunds.com. Similar to Run for the Cure or Movember…having your own Boat Fundraise Page makes it very easy to invite your crew members to help you raise money online. It’s important to get started soon as the regatta is only 34 days away!

Thanks for your support !
Kate

Cool event, if the work schedule works I'll sign up. Just wondering why it's a lobster bash and not a crab fest? Seems like delicious West coast and local crab would fit the bill for a GSA fundraiser better than importing lobster 5000 km.

Haha good question - it's borne out of tradition...the VRC has been doing a lobster bash for a few years running....the east coasters send over their catch! The VRC and Jaye and Jason at Evolution Sails have always put on a great dinner

If you've ever been to the Lobster Bash you wouldn't need to ask

Thanks Kate for getting the word out. NOR and registration page will be available soon.

Lobster vs Crab is always a debate, and I think would be best settled by a post race battle between a lobster and a crab. Gladiator Style. With hot, clarified butter for both the winner and loser.

Anyway, this might be the first race I do on my boat. No spinnaker, but I'll give it a go.

This is hilarious... and having won the Lobster Queen Crown at the Shediac lobster festival.....I'll put $50 on the lobster. With proceeds if lobster wins to the GSA.

Hi Everyone....

ONLY 27 days to the VRC Summer Regatta and Lobster Bash! Don't forget if you fundraise to support the Georgia Strait Alliance - you are eligible to win cash prize if you place 1st 2nd or 3rd! You can learn more about the GSA and their initiatives to protect our coastal waters here ---> www.georgiastrait.org

Let me know if you'd like a fundraise page for your boat and I will make one for your team! With a crew of 5 or 6 it's very easy to raise $250 if you just send the link to your networks.

Here are the ones we've already created....
