Hi Guys,

Huge thanks to AK, Salus, Silik, Lark, Windyfeat, Krikkit, Godzilla, Talisman, TC, who are all fundraising for the VRC Summer Regatta (July 10-12) to protect our coastlines. Let me know if you and your crew are open to having page where you can get sponsors/donations for your boat in support of the Georgia Strait Alliance - a registered charity in BC focused or restoring and protecting the Salish Sea. Read more about the organization by clicking the link! I'll set you up with a page. It's super easy.

Thanks! Kate

PS - if boats raise at least $250, they are eligible to win a cash prize if they end up on the podium!

Kate - sounds like a great event.

I notice the vrcracing.ca site has the GSA event listed as Aug 23, but I am pretty sure that is 2014.

Plus the NOR is not up for the summer regatta. is one coming, or are you using the VARC generic NOR? Is there a list of registered boats somewhere?

thanks and good luck with the event!!

G

The VRC Annual Summer Regatta and Lobster Bash is just around the corner July 10, 11 & 12. This year we have something special arranged... What more can you ask for than two days of racing around beautiful English Bay and stuffing yourself with fresh lobster on Saturday night?

This year the Summer Regatta will also benefit the Georgia Strait Alliance (GSA) which is a registered non-profit and charity in B.C. focused on protecting and restoring our coastlines. For 25 years, it has developed programs such as the Waterfront Initiative for responsible waterfront development, Clean Marine BC for green boating and Tankers & Oil spills to address disasters like the spill that happened in English Bay earlier this Spring. Competitors are urged, but not required, to fund-raise for the regatta.

This is your away regatta at home, so we encourage all competitors to take advantage of the free moorage at VRC. Friday evening kicks off with a charity BBQ at 1900hrs with proceeds benefiting the GSA. The evening is sponsored by Coal Harbour Brewing Company with free beer, till it runs out, for skippers and crew.

After a full day of racing we invite you back to VRC where sponsors, Jaye and Jason from Evolution Sails, will be bashing lobster for your culinary pleasure. After dinner we'll dance the night away to Ruckus Deluxe, the famous house band of the Dubh Linn Gate in Whistler (http://ruckusdeluxe.com/). That's not all! Join us after racing on Sunday for a BBQ on the Carver deck and an encore performance by Ruckus Deluxe!

Registration will open in the next few days at http://vrcracing.ca/summerregatta/

Talisman, have I got this right? In the Notice of Race it states that it is planned that there be two races over two days with one race being held each day, more if time allows. Sounds good to me, but what is the plan? Does the VRC plan on running one race of a longer distance that the usual 1.5 nm to windward mark and back, or what? I do like the innovative thinking if that is the case? Please confirm.

Traditionally the plan is to have one day with a single longer race and the other day with multiple round the buoy races. It all depends on the conditions. If the RC sets up for a long race and everyone finishes quickly we'll set up for another shorter race. If the wind shuts off it may be abandoned and we'll run one or two short ones.

Last year the wind was really fickle Saturday so we didn't have a long (distance-wise) race but the RC did a good job to get in a bunch of short, tight races done on Sunday.

The year before had really good wind with a longer distance race Saturday (Kits, Pt Grey, Passage) and 2 medium length on Sunday.
