Glowfast Marine manufacture specifically designed Luminous (glow in the dark) products for safety, performance, boat handling and fishing.

The idea for Glowfast Marine was developed in 2002 whilst Company Director Jason Theuma was sailing on USA 71 Oracle BMW during the Americas Cup. Over the duration of the campaign countless tests were carried out in the Oracle BMW boatsheds. After numerous attempts Glowfast Marine put our first purpose built products into production in 2004.

Glowfast Marine have been working closely with some of the world’s leading sail makers to place product on high profile yachts including Volvo Ocean Race Teams, and winner of the recent Sydney-Newcastle Regatta - Loki. So I guess to keep costs down you could buy less, and just cut it up to make dotted lines instead of solid ones. Hell I'd be happy if they made the stuff light enough to make telltales out of!

Thanks for your interest in Glowfast Marine products.
Thought I would jump on and answer a few of your questions.

A little more about our tapes
They are specifically designed for use on sails and are made of a cloth similar to current sail repair tapes. This makes them light weight, 200 grams per square metre. They also have the same adhesive on them which makes them stick well to sails.

I saw that you have some concern about the price. All things considered, pricing works out at between 2%-4% of your total sail cost. We don't believe that this is preventative for up to a 20% increase in performance. Not to mention the increased safety of being able to see your sail at night.

I would also like to stress the importance of getting the correct size sail tape for your individual application. We are very keen to make sure that people get the best experience using our products and are always available to help you get the right products for your requirements. We will also be working with our distributors to make sure they have good knowledge of our products and can help you select the right product for your individual needs.

Some things to consider when selecting tape sizes.

How far the product is going to be away (the further up the rig they are the thicker the tapes need to be).

What you are going to use them for i.e if you are only going to be out for a few hours at night you can put smaller draft stripes on but if you want to view them all night then you need a thicker tape.

Tell Tales
We stock luminous tell tale patches (currently one of best sellers). These go on behind your tell tales so that you can see them moving against an illuminated background. The reason we don't make the tell tales themselves is that they do not glow for long enough to be of any use. The patches can be retrofitted to any sail, are made of the same material as our draft stripes and have the same adhesive backing.

When applied correctly (to a clean dry sail) our products will last the life of the sail.

Hi All,

I know that the cost of our Racing Series product was preventative for a few of you so this post is just to let you know we've now released a cheaper product that's just as bright called the Cruising Series.

It's made using a different process so it's slightly heavier than the original product. It also has a clear film over the top so it's great for sails that spend a lot of time out of the bag.
